SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION WORKSHOPS
What is sustainable consumption?
Sustainable consumption involves the efficient use of resources to meet current needs without compromising future generations. It prioritizes waste reduction, energy savings, and the choice of environmentally friendly products. This approach promotes environmental protection, social equity, and economic well-being by encouraging responsible purchasing and lifestyle choices, thereby contributing to long-term planetary and human health.
What is the "Sustainable Consumption Workshops" project?
Ecological imperatives require the economy to shift towards more environmentally friendly modes of production, distribution, consumption, and living for a new way of "living together." However, do the labels offered to consumers really meet their expectations? The University of Montpellier has formed an interdisciplinary team to study the concept of sustainable consumption and modes of action in public policy and private initiatives. The project aims to identify the discourse and practices of sustainable consumption in order to define its uses, benefits, costs, and standards, with a view to developing public policies and private professional practices that will enable the relevant objectives to be achieved. The aim is not only to study these voluntary acts throughout the consumption process (from production to disposal, including purchase and use), but also to do so from two perspectives: the organizational angle and that of consumer uses and practices.
