The Girl from Brest

A film based on Irène Frachon’s book *Médiator 150 mg*

Mediator, which was introduced in 1976 for the treatment of diabetes but was widely misused as an appetite suppressant, was prescribed extensively in France and around the world. Withdrawn from the market in 2009, after a link to heart damage and pulmonary arterial hypertension was established by pulmonologist Irène Frachon, a lengthy trial followed, the appeal verdict of which was handed down a few months ago.

Irène Frachon’s journey as a whistleblower and key player in this long-running legal battle is the subject of a feature film that traces the ins and outs of this extraordinary health and legal saga.
