The Girl from Brest
Film based on Irène Frachon's book "Médiator 150 mg"
Mediator, marketed in 1976 for the treatment of diabetes but widely misused as an appetite suppressant, was widely prescribed in France and around the world. Withdrawn from the market in 2009 after a link with heart damage and pulmonary arterial hypertension was established by pulmonologist Irène Frachon, a lengthy trial followed, with the appeal verdict handed down a few months ago.
Irène Frachon's journey as a whistleblower and key player in this lengthy legal battle is the subject of a feature film that traces the ins and outs of this extraordinary health and legal saga.
