The girl from Brest
Film based on Irène Frachon's book "Médiator 150 mg".
Mediator, marketed in 1976 for the treatment of diabetes, but widely misused as an appetite suppressant, was widely prescribed in France and the rest of the world. Withdrawn from the market in 2009, after a link with heart damage and pulmonary hypertension was established by lung specialist Irène Frachon, a high-profile trial followed, with an appeal verdict handed down a few months ago.
Irène Frachon's career as a whistleblower and a key player in this long-running case is the subject of a feature film that traces the ins and outs of this extraordinary health and legal chronicle.
