The Hamon Consumer Protection Act – 10 Years On
Enacted on March 17, 2014, Law No. 2014-344 of March 17, 2014, on consumer affairs—known as the Hamon Law—strengthened consumer protection against businesses.
This landmark legislation was intended to improve and adapt consumer law in light of new regulations as well as developments in European case law. Strengthening consumer protection was also intended to help promote competition and improve household purchasing power. According to the explanatory memorandum, the aim was also to“ensure the effectiveness of the rule of law”by modifying the powers of the administrative authorities responsible for consumer protection, as well as by creating new avenues for redress.
The conference aims to assess this consumer protection law, nearly ten years to the day after it took effect. Through a wide range of topics within the field, it will also provide participants with an overview of current developments in consumer law. Finally, taking a forward-looking approach, the event will offer an opportunity to reflect on what the future of consumer law might hold.
