Hamon law on consumer affairs – 10 years on
Enacted on March 17, 2014, Law No. 2014-344 of March 17, 2014 on consumer affairs, known as the Hamon Law, strengthened consumer protection against businesses.
Fundamentally, the purpose of this text was to improve and adapt consumer law in light of new rules and developments in European case law. Strengthening consumer protection was also intended to promote competition and improve household purchasing power. According to the explanatory memorandum, the aim was also to "ensure the effectiveness of the rule of law"by modifying the powers of the administrative authorities responsible for consumer protection, but also by creating new avenues of redress.
The symposium aims to take stock of this consumer law, almost ten years to the day after its entry into force. Through a wide range of topics within the discipline, it will also provide participants with an overview of current developments in consumer law. Finally, the event will take a more forward-looking approach, reflecting on what the future of consumer law might hold.
