EUROPEAN CONGRESS ON CONSUMER LAW
February 27 & 28, 2025 - Montpellier

International Association of Consumer Law
The Association Internationale de Droit de la Consommation (International Association of Consumer Law) was born of the desire to create links by developing joint reflection and research on the evolution of consumer relations and their legal formalization in different regions of the world. Cooperation between institutions, universities, consumer organizations and experts is sought to enable and encourage research and teaching in the field of consumer law.
The association has decided to hold a European regional congress in Montpellier on Thursday February 27 and Friday February 28, 2025, to enable specialists in the field to present their work, discuss the future of consumer law and pay tribute to Professor Jean Calais Auloy, who was a professor at the University of Montpellier, where he created the team specializing in the field.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Two themes will be specifically studied, and time will be devoted to subjects freely proposed by the speakers. Reference to the work of Professor Jean Calais Auloy will be appreciated.
Thursday, February 27 - morning
CONSUMER INFORMATION
The consumer relationship is by its very nature an unbalanced one, between a connoisseur and a layman, a professional whose economic interests justify his or her efforts, and a consumer constrained by his or her lesser knowledge or immediate needs, impulses and so on.
However, informing consumers of their rights is essential if consumer law is to be effective. There are many different ways of doing this, including codification, websites, consultations with consumer associations, explanations by public authorities, mediation by professional representatives and so on.
Thursday, February 27 - afternoon
NEW CONSUMER TRENDS AND ABUSIVE COMMERCIAL PRACTICES
The emergence of new technologies in particular has led to the emergence of new modes of consumption, whether initiated by consumers, public authorities or professionals. These new offers can give rise to new practices, sometimes unfair, sometimes difficult to understand, for which ordinary consumer law may or may not prove effective in regulating the market and protecting consumers.
Friday, February 28 - morning
OPEN DISCUSSION AND PRESENTATION OF WORKSHOP RESULTS
Friday morning will be devoted to open presentations and institutional announcements from the association and the University of Montpellier. Young and established researchers will also have the opportunity to present the results of their research and workshops held in conjunction with the congress.
